KEYSTONE ALLIANCE/GAYLIFE NEWSLETTER PRESENTS AN EVENING OF QUEER STAND UP AND DRAG PERFORMANCE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LGBTQA YOUTH PROGRAMMING
At 11p.m. on Saturday, November 19th, the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter will sponsor a fundraising event to support LGBTQA youth programming in the Pittsburgh, PA public schools. The evening will be celebrated in There Video Lounge, located at 931 Liberty Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Featuring Chalice, Chicago Drag Queen Sensation and Pittsburgh native, the evening will be hosted by out comic Meg ORourke. Chalice has premiered at Berlin Chicago in the notoriously fabulous Drag Matinee monthly series. Showcased at the esteemed Zanies Comedy Club Chicago, Meg ORourke has performed riotously comical stand up at the Chicago Performing Arts Center, Sapphos Salon, and Marys Attic to mention a few. Enjoy an implausibly hilarious and exquisitely entertaining night of comedy and drag performance by Chicagos finest and soon to be Pittsburghs favorites.
Launching this wonderful evening of stellar entertainment, the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter will also co-sponsor an honoring of National Coming Out Day on October 11th, 2011 in Johnstown, Meg ORourke, Chicago Public Schools Special Education Teacher, has assumed a role as Safe Schools Coordinator with the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter to support LGBTQ bullying within the Chicago Public School system. Created to promote safety, awareness, and inclusion for LGBTQ students in the South and West side of Chicago, the coordination will be created to partner with four middle schools throughout the 2011-2012 academic year to include a LGBTQ focus in existing anti-bullying programs. In addition, programming will provide both elementary and middle school teachers with free, accessible, and standards-based Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum to enhance Human Rights history education in the classroom. Curriculum will include LGBTQ history and current events. Promoting inclusion of LGBTQ rights and culture within the classroom will support visibility and safety for LGBTQ students.
Beginning in the fall of 2011, Meg ORourke will be partnering with a Pittsburgh, PA elementary school on behalf of the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter to provide LGBTQA materials for a partnering teachers classroom library. The collaboration will allow public school partnerships in Chicago to expand its reach beyond Chicago to promote safety, awareness, and inclusion of LGBTQA youth in Pittsburgh schools as well. Purchased books and media materials will be shared among different classrooms through a traveling media cart, enabling teachers of numerous grade levels to incorporate LGBTQA resources into October Queer History month lesson plans as well as existing safety and anti-bullying materials and programs to include LGBTQA students.
