    • Blue Moon is the premier spot for drag shows! This little spot started the careers of Alaska and Sharon Needles. It is a tight spot and gets crowded but is super fun!

      Blue Moon is Great
Love the Happy Hour and the back room. The singing and kaoroke is so fun. It is a safe place for gay and lesbian people.

      Had a great time
Myself and my partner visited Pittsburgh over Labor Day weekend and on Friday, August 30, 2013 we visited the Blue Moon. This place was one of the few places that we were able to find parking nearby the bar and lots of it. They permit smoking inside the place. So, it is very smokey. Neith myself nor my partner smoke and would have preferred that it was smoke-free but it is rare to find a bar in Pittsburgh that bans smoking. The place was packed and the patrons and staff were super friendly. The bartender greeted us quickly and got our drinks. They make really good drinks and they free pour. The main reason for going to the Blue Moon for me was that they have Karaoke on Friday nights. I like doing karaoke. It was hosted by EddieOke. EddieOke is a popular karaoke hosts in the Gay community. I sang 4 songs that night. Also, this is the home bar of both of RuPaul's Drag Race contestants, Sharon Needles and Alaska. Both Sharon's and Alaska's photos were posted above the stage as were a couple other photos of drag queens that I do not know. The place has a real mix of people in it from every level, race, age and culture. This is part of what makes it so fun. The place is not glamorous at all but it is fun.

Welcome Back - Once Again a Fun Place
The Blue Moon has seen it's issues but has really come back to being a fun, lively bar with great later evening and weekend crowds. Good Drinks, Fun Bar with nice people who talk to you if you make some mutual effort. Small outdoor patio but plenty of seating. Overall, it's a fun place to try out. I wasn't a big fan at one time but I really like how things have turned around. Definately a YES.

      Setting the record straight
On August 10, 2010, I posted a "review" of the Blue Moon on Butler Street, which showed up on its google maps page as a review made on The City Paper's website. Let me say this was not an accurate review. I wrote it when I was mad and being very childish. I looked to find what would hurt Andy the most, and then I posted the comments without thinking. It was selfish. It was childish. It was wrong. In truth, The Blue Moon and Andy both are very accepting and fun. I consider Andy a friend, and hope he can find a way to continue to be mine. I offer my sincerest apology not only to Andy, Liz, and Jeri, but to anyone who read the post and was either offended or misled by it. In recent days I have been very critical of public figures saying things without thinking it through. I am guilty of being a hypocrite. Please feel free to confront me on this, I tend bar at The Blue Moon (if they are still willing to have me) and would like the chance to apologize to anyone who asks. -Robb Hamilton

      Don't go there !
The heavy-set bald bartender is a very unfriendly egotistical bastard. He's not very friendly to the customer and is constantly disappearing into a back room turning his back on the customers and makes them wait for drinks. This was my first and last time to patronize this bar. If you're a guy with class, this is not the place for you.

      Forget it.
Andy, you have totally trashed this bar. It is no longer a gay man's bar. It is a lesbian/straight woman/black bar with many of them obviously using. The owners of this bar have to be stupid to let this continue. Have fun as the gay men continue to leave and go to other bars in town. Make the back room 'men only' as you promised, you big fraud. Get a cabaret license for male dancers and let the gay men know you want to stay gay. Otherwise, we're outta here!! and you can party with your girls.

      Wrong crowd for me
The interior is typical of a bar that hasn't upgraded since they opened their doors. Drinks are worth the price however the bartender didn't seem to like his job much. Crowd was not the greatest and verbal assaults between patrons did make for an entertaining experience. One man offered me money to keep him "company" at which point I decided it was time to go elsewhere.

Weekend Place for CD's and some Trans
When I first started to live full time as a woman I would go here all the time and the people were nice and very accepting of everyone. The crowd is usually kinda small nowadays. The drinks are less expensive than some of the other places in town.

      Friendly neighborhood bar
Blue Moon is a classic type Pgh bar: cheap drinks, friendly and diverse (mostly gay men, but some lezbos and tranz on the weekends) crowd. I'm a tranz and when I'm back in the Burgh I always stop in.

not that many lesbians! but some scary ones!
this is more of a older gay guy bar, with lots of trannygirls on the weekend. always a wild time! free jukebox in the back and STRONG long island iced teas. not too many lesbians--but that's okay. if i wanna check out some steelers lezzies i will go to donny's/weezie's in polish hill. this is my favorite bar, and i am a lesbian. and not old.
